We tried the Lean Girl’s avo scooping hack

If you follow Angelique Daubermann, founder of the Lean Girl brand, you might have come across her innovative hack for keeping avocados fresher for a longer period in the fridge on her social media.

The method is quite distinctive, unlike most methods we’ve seen before. And from submerging cut avo in water to storing them in an airtight container with onions, we’ve witnessed our fair share!

What’s so unique about this scooping method? Well, you cut off the top of the avocado and, with the skin still intact, you simply scoop around the pit, taking out as much avo as you’d like. This leaves the rest of the avo flesh with the pip encased by the skin for another day. Since you don’t actually remove the pit, your avo should stay fresher (and greener) for a longer time than it would without the pit.

Naturally, to add to our collection of verified avocado hack tests, we tried out this method. While it did work – the avo certainly stayed fresher for a longer period in the fridge – there was some browning. Fortunately, it was only a very thin layer that could be easily removed, revealing fresh green avo waiting to be scooped again!

We discovered that the scooping hack is more effective the more you scoop the avo out around the pit. So, the further down the avo flesh you go, the more the pit and skin seem to prevent the avo from browning.

The method was successful, but it didn’t manage to outperform some of the other avocado-saving hacks we’ve tested previously. The scooping method yielded similar results to simply cutting an avo and storing it with the pit intact.

While submerging a cut avocado in water and storing it in an airtight container might seem like a bit of a hassle, it remains one of the best avocado-saving hacks, and it definitely beats having onion-flavoured avocado!
