Summer food

It’s here!

I am waking up to bright, sunny mornings, donning slip-slops and my happy watermelon skirt and
life feels crazy end-of-the-year busy, but there’s also it’s-almost-time-for-holiday
excitement.

I am such a huge summer fan; it kind of makes everything
alright… maybe it’s all the sunshine and the smoky scent of braais wafting
around the neighbourhood on the weekends?

I am revving up my cool twisty ice maker and plan on long,
cool iced teas and buckets of white wine in the up-coming festive month.

After a long day on the beach, when the babes are snuggling,
sun-kissed  in their beds, I shall clutch
my dew-dropped large fish bowl of a glass and swan around in a bright kaftan.  Heaven.

What to eat?

It’s all about fresh, light and healthier food. A new
beginning, a clean-out. That’s one of the fantastic things I find about summer
food, there’s no fuss. There’s so much that just goes straight onto your plate
with a wash and a slice.

Try to keep things simple but interesting. My advice is to
have a couple of funky additions to your meal that take it from lovely, to wow.
Like caramelised nuts on top of a salad or a spectacular sauce with a perfectly
grilled steak, it keeps entertaining easy but makes things extra special.

Transform a simple fillet of fish with a zesty salsa.
Beautiful jewelled pomegranates are now in season and they are stunning
sprinkled over salads and will metamorphosise the presentation of a roast lamb
or sliced fillet.

Prepare desserts in advance and use lots of seasonal fruit.
Pile up a gorgeous pavlova or fill a huge glass bowl with strawberries and yoghurt
with nuts and honey

Big sips and sun,
