It’s World Chocolate Day and what says “celebration time” more than an abundance of brownies? Moreish, decadent, and darn-right delicious – brownies will always be the ultimate chocolatey treat.

We set out to Taste Test and rate 5 different brownie recipes on the Food24 website, and the results were decadently delicious!

Nutella brownies scored 4/5 on the overall taste

Recipe supplied by Kevin Obwar from Come Dine With Kevin.

These classic crinkle-top brownies with a fudgy centre were received very well by the Food24 taste testers and were the top brownie of the day! They’re dense and chocolatey, sinfully easy to make, and you only need three ingredients!

Tasters noted that the chocolate-hazelnut flavours came through strongly, and some even realised that they were tasting Nutella brownies, revealing the Nutella lovers in the room! Tasters also noted they were deliciously gooey and on point in terms of taste and texture. An ultimate lush brownie experience is guaranteed when you bake a batch of these brownies!

Spiced brownies scored 3.5/5 on the overall taste

Recipe supplied by Landi Govender.

These festively spiced brownies had a comforting spiced decadence with deep chocolate notes and a gloriously fudgy centre. Tasters definitely picked up on the spiced notes, which were a welcome surprise (if you enjoy spiced chocolate flavours) or not for those who aren’t wild about cinnamon and ginger.

The brownies delivered deep, rich chocolate notes and the tasters loved the fudgy texture. They also noted that not only did the spices remind them of Christmas, but also helped tone down the sweetness of the brownie, allowing for that perfectly rich fudgy chocolate brownie balance! One taster even remarked that these brownies were “melt-in-your-mouth delicious”.

Fudgy Milo brownies scored 3.8/5 on the overall taste

Recipe created exclusively for Food24.

Sweet, fudgy brownies with malty flavour pops and white chocolate chunks – tasters noted that this brownie was on the sweeter side, but wonderfully chocolatey and well enjoyed by the Food24 taste testers.

Tasters loved the generous amount of white chocolate, noting that it gave the deliciously fudgy centre a good texture. Some tasters picked up on the malty chocolate flavours. Overall, this was the perfect brownie for those who aren’t the biggest fans of rich, dark chocolate brownies.

Chocolate and avocado brownies scored 2.5/5 on the overall taste

Recipe created exclusively for Food24.

Although this is more of a cakey brownie, the chocolate flavour was deep and decadent! Tasters said they were more on the savoury side, and far less sweet than the other brownies, and that they seemed like the “healthy” option of the bunch.

Some refined palates could even pick up that xylitol had been used to make them a great sugar-free option. They either loved or loved to hate this brownie, depending on their sweetness preference! It delivers dark chocolate notes while being well-suited to those who prefer a more savoury flavour.

Super-simple chocolate brownies scored 3/5 on the overall taste

Recipe supplied by Hope Malau.

A super budget-friendly option, this brownie is more of an American-style cakey brownie, which doesn’t require large amounts of melted chocolate to make the batter.

While this brownie delivered a sumptuous chocolate flavour, tasters preferred the richer, fudgier brownies. Tasters noted that it while was tasty, it lacked that rich dense brownie texture that makes brownies so luscious and extra.
