An eating guide to Greenpoint and Seapoint

Greenpoint and Seapoint make up one of Cape Town’s vibiest areas for eating out, and with proximity to the Seapoint Promenade and the addition of the stadium it has become a trendy gourmet zone.

SUSHI/SEAFOOD

Beluga: serving half price sushi from 12-7pm every day – a very popular restaurant with a lovely courtyard area.  They also have an extensive menu if sushi is not your vibe.

Sevruga: sister restaurant of Beluga – beautiful setting in the V&A waterfront.

Harbour House at the V&A:  a classic fine-dining seafood restaurant newly opened at the Waterfront.

Wakame/Wafu: gorgeous view and fabulous open rooftop section. Very popular for after work drinks with a relaxed vibe upstairs. More a la carte fine dining in the downstairs restaurant.

CONTEMPORARY

Grand Beach Cafe (Granger Bay): Possibly the most sought after spot in South Africa. You can’t beat a restaurant with a private beach, massive pizzas, beer and cocktails.

La Mouette: great all-rounder restaurant – gorgeous courtyard area – well priced contemporary/fusion food with a friendly service vibe.

La Perla:  a classy drinking hole for sunset drinks plus a nice menu for lunch/dinner.

La Boheme: an Atlantic Seaboard favourite. Perfect for almost everything. A superb, well priced menu with a busy vibe and great service.

Evergreen: Evergreen is simple, classic cafe food located in the heart of Sea
Point.  They serve everything from pasta to sandwiches for locals,
tourists, and children alike.  Stop here for a quick bite to eat.

BURGERS

Hudsons on Somerset: trendy and fun with an awesome burger menu, loud music and fun, sexy staff.

Cafe Extrablatt: German franchise – serve everything from pizzas, burgers to all day breakfasts, beers and milkshakes. Open till late.

STEAKS

Hussar Grill: … no question. Recently voted the most popular steak in Cape Town. And they don’t charge a corkage fee.

1800 Degrees: something they do superbly well is their steaks. And a very memorable roast pork belly.

ITALIAN/PIZZA

Il Leone: very popular Italian – more up market Italian menu with very delicious pastas and pizzas.

Posticino: a more relaxed vibe and probably the busiest Italian in Cape Town. A fantastic outside section.

Andiamo: situated in the “old” Cape Quarter – nice Italian in a funky courtyard setting.

La Vie: great view and relaxed vibe right on the promenade. Go there for beers and pizzas and the odd tequila.

Guilia’s: Situated directly across the road from the stadium, this is as authentic an Italian restaurant as you are likely to find in Cape Town.

MEXICAN

El Burro:  one of the “places to go” in Cape Town and great for groups who like drinking tequila. An awesome extensive Mexican menu.

San Julian: a smaller, very authentic Mexican with a great buzz. Go there for their famous margaritas.

PUBS

Slainte: get your daily dose of Guinness at this new Irish bar near the Victoria Junction Hotel.

Slug and Lettuce: 107 Main Rd, Greenpoint. A nice pub vibe with TVs for watching sport.

Vasco’s: Sensational little sport’s pub with a great vibe and awesome Portuguese favourites on the menu.

The Fireman’s Arms: pub fare and pizzas at their best at this Buitengracht favourite. Plenty of space and loads of beers on tap.

BREAKFAST & COFFEE

Blue Route Deli Bar: Lounge bar, Italian Kitchen, in the heart of Greenpoint, Cape Town.  The
Big Route Deli Bar sports free WI-FI and delicious meals like homemade
pizzas.

Giovanni’s: a Cape Town institution for coffee and breakfast with an awesome deli section.

Zabad: newly opened in the Cape Quarter.

Cafe Neo: Super relaxed caffe with such friendly staff, great views, work on your laptop, read the papers and best of all are –
the cappuccinos.

The Handle Bar: The Handle Bar, Sea Point, is a unique coffee bar and bike shop tailored
to the needs of cyclists in Cape Town. Bike storage, coffee and
specialist products in stock to keep you going at the end of your ride
or just as a walk-in. Their spot is funky and fresh with a down to earth local vibe.
