Your weekend feast: 11 August 2017

We’re slap bang in the middle of August and reports say South Africa’s in for a cold one this weekend! When we hear “cold weather” we already mentally start preparing the boiling broths, soups, saucy stews, pasta and general comfort food in our minds!

Comforting, weekend food is what this week’s edition of the weekend feast is all about.

Dig in!

This lovely chorizo and potato frittata presents the flavours of a Spanish paella in the form of an Italian-style frittata. If you’re having a big breakfast, brunch or even supper this will make a welcome addition to your table.

One of our most loyal bloggers, Heinstirred, notes that the world does not need another malva pudding recipe; that’s why he’s developed one with white miso twist and some orange marmalade instead of apricot jam. Find the recipe here. This is one for those who love malva but can’t stand the sweetness of it.

The ultimate, lazy weekend pasta has to be this slow-cooked lamb with a rich tomato and herb sauce, served on fettuccine and topped with cheese.

These stuffed, baked sweet potatoes once again prove that a dish does not need meat to be indulgent!

Whether you’re entertaining or if you simply want to make some savoury bites to enjoy at home, these easy mince pies do the trick!

Are you in need of a food hug this weekend? Look no further than this aromatic Cape Malay chicken curry with roasted bananas.

This luxurious dessert is basically a Peppermint Crisp tart in the form of a cake – yum! Enjoy as a sweet treat with your afternoon tea.

If you can’t resist having a braai this Wintery weekend, why not try this beautiful lamb roll braai pie by Food24 NextGen contestant, Osiebuni Urubusi.
