Desserts to die for

As much as we don’t like to admit it, the festive season does come with its fair share of stress. For me, it’s usually about getting the right Christmas gift for the right person…without waiting until 24th December to do it.

I don’t have much of a sweet tooth but when the pressure is on, I find myself reaching for the nearest sugary treat for a bit of comfort.  Emotional eater? Yes – that’s me.

Now, if you’ve ever fallen down the rabbit hole that is our dessert recipe page, you’ll know how easy it is to channel your inner Nigella and go mad in the kitchen – creating all kinds of wonderful desserts to impress your friends or just to enjoy on your own, curled up on the couch with your favourite series. Remember this 5-minute chocolate mug cake? It’s a winner for those unexpected cravings.

Speaking of cakes, you simply must have a look at this gorgeous dark chocolate and coconut ganache cake that graced our front page a few weeks ago. Not a fan of chocolate? Then our carrot and banana cake is sure to do the trick!

The team at Food24 love their SA desserts. Who can ever say no to a sticky malva pud? Or an old fashioned milk tart? One of our bloggers, Bits of Carey created a chocolate milk tart that has been a real hit since the day it landed on our site. Try it – you won’t be disappointed!

Now that Summer is here, we tend to steer away from hot or baked desserts and opt rather for treats that keep us cool. I love these 3 easy frozen desserts; perfect to make ahead of time if you’re entertaining a crowd.

Tired of consuming heaps of sugar? Then I suggest you make these treats that have a health-conscious twist:
coconut and cashew ice cream bars
Healthy frozen yoghurt
Cacao mousse cake
Gluten-free chocolate cheesecake

Finally, to end our exploration of dessert territory I’d like to leave you with this recipe – a true favourite in households across the country, and one that reached nearly a hundred thousand people on our Facebook page… the one and only Peppermint Crisp tart.

Yours in spun sugar and clouds of fluffy meringues
