Beat the booze ban

What! No more booze?

Can you believe the insanity of the new liquor by-law that
has been passed in Cape Town?

If you don’t know what I’m on about, basically the law
states that liquor trading hours in business centres will run from 11:00pm
to 02:00am
the following morning and trading hours in residential areas
will be from 11:00am to 11:00pm. (See more here…)

Yoh! Think about it,
you’re having a fabulous time at La Mouette in Seapoint or Myoga in Newlands
and you order another bottle of wine to add to your sparkling conversation and the answer is, “No, sorry madam it’s 11:05pm”.

Silence. Mad gesticulating
and waiter bashing will follow and probably a sulky, “Ok then, just bring the
bill”.

Not too bad for us,
it might save a liver or two, but the restaurants profit margins will certainly
take a dip. Goodbye to all those late-nighters, waving more bottles of expensive wine and
brandies to the table, getting more and more sozzled with not a worry in the
world of the gargantuan bill to follow.

And perhaps you felt
like some champagne with your breakfast sir? Sorry honey, come back at 11am.
Harvey’s at The Winchester Mansions must be up in arms, there goes their famous
jazz brunch.

Ah well, I guess we’ll
have to have more dinner parties! Yehaaa, my favourite. All this libatory talk
has got me thinking of some favourite drinky recipes.

Recipes with fuel

Ok we’ll start with
a champagne and mango coriander cocktail
and then go onto a steaming bowl of mussels with white wine.

For the main affair
you could try one of these taste bud popping dishes. Steak in a port and pepper
sauce

or chicken in white wine with mushrooms
and how could I not include the more-than-delicious coq au vin.

For dessert my
all-time favourite (ta-dah) crepe suzette.
It is probably one of the most delicious things you’ll ever eat and you can
curl your eyelashes and impress your guests with a flaming show at the table.

To top it all off there’s
gorgeous little boozy balls of fun with these rum truffles or perhaps these
seriously faint-worthy orange snaps with coffee and brandy marscapone.

If you’re wondering
what to drink at your luscious get together have a gawk at our liquid gold wine

So worry not people,
we’re sorted.

Love and hangovers,
