The level of service received at this restaurant has been the worst I have experienced in my life! We started off with one waitress who served us stale water. She disappeared and another waiter came to take our order. When questioned about what non-alcoholic cocktails they had (a reasonable question as Harvey’s has a well-known bar next to the restaurant) he could not really answer and gave vague suggestions. Eventually the first waitress bought us a cocktail menu and we ordered drinks and food simultaneously. About 20 minutes went past and we had received NO drinks at all, then the waiter came to our table and informed us that the meal my husband had ordered, which contained a bacon and celeriac puree, could not be made as they had run out the puree. The waiter then suggested that instead of the puree, the chef will "use a sauce". When questioned as to exactly what kind of sauce the chef would use, the waiter could not answer the question. Another few minutes went past and absolutely no drinks were in sight. By now we had been waiting at least 30 minutes and had received nothing except the stale water and some butter which was dumped on our table, but no bread. By now I had had enough of waiting and I called the waiter over and told him that we would like to cancel our entire order as we still had not received any drinks and the meal my husband ordered was not going to be made according the menu. He gave me a blank look and nodded and I can’t say he seemed to care in the slightest. We were meeting friends later on at the bar so we decided to take our chances there. While a manager did come ask us what happened, it felt more like he was questioning us than actually apologising for the terrible service. I’m happy to say we had a delightful waiter in the bar area and our drinks arrived quickly and so did the bar food we ordered. We had been sitting at the bar table for a few minutes (by now it was almost 8 o’ clock – about 50 minutes after we had first arrived at Harveys) and our initial waitress came to us at the bar with the first round of drinks we had ordered almost an hour previously in the restaurant and then cancelled! She abruptly asked if we still wanted our drinks and when we told her that we had told the 2nd waiter that we cancelled ages ago, she flounced off without a word. We were flabbergasted – if we had stayed seated at our table in the restaurant, would it have taken 50 minutes for our drinks to arrive? The restaurant was not busy at all; there were about 4 tables outside and 2 tables inside and at least two waiters, so this level of service is inexcusable!
