Banting survey results released

Interesting times here at Food24! This morning hot off the press were the results for the 2014 Banting Survey. 7359 respondents gave feedback, most of them were between the ages of 30 and 45, and 68% of them were women.

To read the full results click here – but what we found most interesting was the high percentage of people who reported less hunger (39%) and more energy (38%). Also the fact that weight loss was less significant than expected.  Maybe because most of the survey respondents were women (68%) and according to DietDoc men lose weight faster than women, and the same rules apply to the low-carb eating lifestyle.

Another thing to note was the majority of respondents took the decision to undertake a new eating plan by “personal decision” (65.20%). An answer that is easy to understand considering the level of publicity that the Banting Diet has received. This is followed by “recommendations by friends” (24.19%).

While we agree that yes, there has been amazing publicity around the diet – the uptake could also be extremely high because of the incredible results most people on the diet seem to be achieving. You only need to read the comments on most of our LCHF articles to see that while there are many who are against the diet – others who have tried it for themselves have testified to it being life-changing.

There is much to discuss around this lifestyle choice and its pros and cons – but (thankfully) there is more to life than eating plans and surveys, especially here at Food24. For starters Halloween is tomorrow and if you do like to dress up and take the littlies out trick or treating we have got some cool things for you to make.

How about these easy frozen banana bites. They just look so fun and funky! And these spooky frozen jellies. Wicked! Cupcakes are always a win and these very vanilla ones just can’t be beat for a Halloween treat. And who can resist this step-by-step pumpkin pie?

So while it’s great to have healthy debate and research around optimum lifestyles, it’s also nice to have a bit of fun and remind the young ones that spooky traditions and dressing up is still part of a happy, well-rounded food experience.
