This Friday, 12 October, will see Princess Eugenie marrying her longtime partner, James Brooksbank at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. The event will be a more family orientated rerun of Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding earlier this year at the same location.

RECIPE: Red velvet cupcakes

Princess Eugenie and her sister Beatrice are the two daughters of the Duke of York and his former wife Sarah, Duchess of York. As the sixth grandchild of the Queen, and 9th in line to the throne, Eugenie’s wedding should attract a large gathering of our favourite royals – both young and old. It has been reported that young Princess Charlotte of Cambridge will be a flower girl.

Naturally, we can expect to see a few interesting quirks from the York family, who are known for being unpretentious and laid-back. The Princesses have described their upbringing as “regular”, and have inherited a strong sense of duty from their father and an unashamed individuality from their feisty, independent mother.

Buckingham Palace has revealed some details about the wedding in a press statement, which we were eager to read about. Eugenie and James have selected London cake designer Sophie Cabot to create their wedding cake, which the palace describes as “a traditional cake, with a modern feel”.

RECIPE: Vertical red velvet cake

In an interview with British Vogue earlier this year, Eugenie admitted to sketching out her wedding cake ideas on Pinterest. In a quote that many brides can relate to, the Princess said, “It’s nerve-wracking because you want it to be perfect but then you realise that you’re going to be with the person you love forever and nothing else really matters.”

The cake will be a red velvet sponge layered with chocolate ganache. Sophie Cabot is renowned for her whimsical, handpainted cakes and biscuits. She uses flowers and foliage to create unique cakes for her clients.

Sophie first collaborated with the Princess and her father, The Duke of York, designing hand painted biscuits for his entrepreneurial charity Pitch@Palace in November 2017. Giving a few more clues about the cake, Buckingham Palace said “It will incorporate the rich colours of Autumn in its design and will be covered with detailed sugar work including ivy.”
