Where to eat in Cape Town this Summer

Summer is here and the only thing you really want to know is which cool places you should be eating at in Cape Town this season.

We’re about to give you the inside track, and depending on what you are looking for, we’ll try and be as helpful as possible.

Fine dining or celebration – we’d have to go with La Colombe. Really outstanding! A beautiful location and the food is next level. We hope you can get a booking. At R1100 a head for their gourmand tasting menu – this really is the best value tasting menu around.

Open Door Restaurant on nearby Constantia Uitsig is also a good call if you have visitors from out of town. Complete with a stunning breakfast room, great food and a wine list every sommelier dreams about, this restaurant can cater for just about any occasion.

Cool. And by cool we mean sexy. Check out Door 221 on Bree Street. A trendy bar that has great classic cocktails and craft beers – but they also serve killer burgers and their tacos rival anyone’s in Cape Town…which says a lot because tacos are pretty much everywhere at the moment!

The new El Burro Taqueria on Kloof Nek Road is just about as cool as you can get – and next door to it is a new takeaway burger bar called Junior. This is the perfect stop-off after you’ve had a few drinks at the still very popular Power & the Glory bar.

Also on Bree Street, Charango is pumping. Peruvian Japanese fusion tapas-style dishes combining with our favorite Pisco cocktails and you’ll be laughing into the night. They also do a great Wagyu burger. In fact, don’t leave without trying it.

Boston has just opened up on Buitengracht and they are producing burgers that have the competition worried. Yours Truly – the popular Kloof Street hangout has opened a second branch on Loop Street. Look out for more trendy sandwiches and epic craft beers.

Jerry’s Burger bar on Park has been open a few months now and their burgers are still as good as they were when they first started. We love the Jack D – basted with bourbon and served with caramelized onions and bacon.

Black Sheep is still right up at the top of our list. With a blackboard menu that changes daily and an ambiance that no one can compete with. A standout dish? The Asian-style pork belly. And for a starter nibble – you can’t go wrong with the crispy zucchini fries.

If you love sushi – try the new Sushi Box on Kloof Street or Active Sushi in De Waterkant – which is getting all the plaudits.

We’ve also put together a few great lunch spots for you to check out should you find yourself hungry in the city come noon.

So, that’s where Food24 likes to hang out these days. Everything changes so quickly – but definitely check out one of these places soon!

Bon appétit!
