Watch them whisk: 4 celebs you probably didn’t know could cook

Since the heavy lockdown at the onset of the pandemic, food and cooking at home have been lifelines when people needed to connect while apart. Chefs took to social media to share tips and cook with a community of friends. This trend allowed many the confidence to showcase their hidden talents and passions. What emerged and is continuing to happen is the presence of different celebrities (not known for cooking) coming out to share their cooking skills and moments in the kitchen. This is the kind of content we’re here for, and here’s a list of four unlikely celebrities cooking that caught our attention.

1. Basetsana Khumalo

Iconic pageant queen, TV personality and businesswoman Basetsana Khumalo revealed her love of cooking during the early days of lockdown, and how lucky are we to be enriched by her superb skills in the kitchen! Bassie, as she’s affectionately known, became Miss South Africa in 1994 and remains an inspiration for current queens such as Zozibini Tunzi and Shudufhadzo Musida. Fun and effervescent, her passion for cooking is tangible on the show. She recently cooked up a storm for her family’s Sunday lunch during Heritage Month.

2. Jennifer Garner’s Pretend Cooking Show

Jennifer Garner’s IGTV series, Pretend Cooking Show, is an unexpected treat. The show, which already boasts over 30 episodes, is so popular that she is getting requests to take it to TV. The appeal is in how we get to see who Jennifer really is – funny and often klutzy – a part of her we did not know because she keeps her life private. She was reluctant to do the show but considered it when she became the co-founder and chief brand officer of a startup, Once Upon a Farm, which makes accessible organic children’s food for kids. She often features her mom in the show and the banter between the two is adorable.

3. Serena and Olympia

This is another adorable mom-and-daughter duo! Tennis champion Serena Williams and her daughter, Olympia, often share their matching-outfit moments and cute baking occasions.

4. Brooklyn Beckham
Brooklyn is showing some impressive cooking skills with a quiet confidence too. It would seem the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree as Dad, David Beckham, is also very good in the kitchen. Often referred to as “Chef David” by his wife, Victoria Beckham, on her Instagram stories, David competed in a cook-off with Gordon Ramsay in 2017 and impressed the world-renowned chef with his risotto. So excellent cooking runs in the family.
