Useful eating and drinking tips for Spring

Spring has sprung and here at Food24 we certainly have a Spring in our step for Heritage month. I don’t know about the rest of the country but Cape Town could not have delivered better weather for this official change of the season.

From our side we have been enjoying a few braais of late, inspired mostly by our fabulous Braai Hub and the stunning new recipes currently residing there.

Greek style lamb burgers, easy basting sauce, festive prawns, braaied lamb cutlets… and we are just going to keep topping it up with more fabulous recipes. If you don’t bookmark this page for summer then you can’t blame us for missing out!

We went to the premiere of a particularly great movie last night  and take this piece of advice, if you see one film at the cinema this summer, make it Boyhood. We also wondered why foodies would be invited to a poignant movie about a boy growing up – and then my life changed – and not because of the movie. There, at the cinema, I discovered glassofwine.co.za. Plastic wine glasses, filled up with wine and sealed. So, a one-off glass of wine. Perfect for a movie or a picnic and recyclable and it is available to buy online.

Now – let’s talk about some hot summer trends. Craft cocktails, people. You have not experienced a real cocktail until you have tried a craft cocktail. And the sweetest thing is, you can make them at home.

Spring is also the season for pink wine! So right on cue our wine editor Cathy Marston tells us why pink wine is pink and shares a few recommendations for buying some delicious rosé wines.

If you are slimming down for summer, we still have some great low-carb recipes going strong. If you are confused about what healthy eating actually means these days, then you are not alone. Read this article – it might help you on your way.

And that is our welcome to Spring. May it be a happy one full of great vibes!
