The best restaurants along the Garden Route

The Garden Route is a gift of gorgeous food along one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world.  While the people living there already know the secret to life is dwelling by the ocean in a peaceful costal town, most of us only get the pleasure of visiting while on holiday.

We’ve rounded up some first-rate establishments from Mossel Bay to Plett that will keep your bellies full of fresh produce, seafood and impressive culinary delights.

So get the padkos packed for the car, because after reading this list, you’ll be itching to hit the road.

Mossel Bay
Route 57 –  International golf star gone restauranteur, Louis Oosthuizen teams up to bring you South African cuisine and a classical ambiance.

George
Meade cafe – Their motto is ‘life’s too short for cheap tea and dirty coffee,’ and we agree.

Wilderness  
Serendipity – Often voted as one of South Africa’s top restaurants, Serendipity is a romantic, personalised fine dining experience without pretension and will be one of the best meals of your life.
Blue Olive – After an epic day at the beach, grab a burger, beer and mussels with friends.

Sedgefield
Trattoria da Vinci – Small and local Italian food with friendly owners, Leah and Steve will make you feel at home.
Wild Oats Market – Find your South African classic eats and treats at this small artisan market.

Knsyna
Ile de Pain – A staple in Knysna, with heavenly freshly baked goods, sandwiches and a vibrant atmosphere to boot.
The Lookout Deck – Situated overlooking the ocean between rugged rocks and a nature reserve, they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner for all day dining.
Zachary’s at Pezula – Stylish, contemporary, beautiful cuisine, Zachary’s is a splurge, but well worth it.
Café Z – A little bit more casual than Zachary’s, also at Pezula and great for a more lighthearted meal.
34º South – Well established, great seafood, and a fabulously social atmosphere.  Bring the family.
East Head Café – Set outside of town, East Head overlooks a blue lagoon, serves a spectacular breakfast (with Deluxe coffee) and you can go for a short trail walk after your meal.

Plettenberg Bay
