Earlier this year, Chef Jan Hendrik met with Food24 Editor, Tessa Purdon, to discuss his latest creative project, JAN the JOURNAL. The seasonal cookbook meets travel magazine is jam packed with recipes, notes, photography from Jan’s life in SA and France.
The journal has been enthusiastically embraced by the legions of Jan’s fans, and this week he making a special trip to Western Cape towns to meet and chat with all of his local supporters. Van der Westhuizen’s cooking relies heavily on his South African heritage, using ingredients such as buchu and Karoo lamb. Readers will find the recipes familiar, while inspiring, accompanied by stunning visuals.
He is passionate about South African produce, and supporting local farmers and their incredible ingredients. He told us, “We have a responsibility as chefs. We are influencers of how people eat and how to look after the planet”.
