Super healthy Easter baking!

Make your baking this Easter more nutritious and delicious by adding in McCain Frozen Vegetables! Vegetables add fibre, moisture and a natural sweetness to cakes and breads while significantly increasing the nutritional value.

Our top 10 tips for healthier baking:

  1. Healthy eating starts with a balanced, varied diet, and making sure you are eating enough vegetables. In fact, nutritionists suggest that you eat up to five portions of different colour vegetables a day. By adding veggies to your favourite cakes and bakes, you can be sure that at least one portion a day is covered. It’s also a great way to get picky eaters to eat their veggies.
  2. Fibre is an important part of a healthy diet and supports many different body functions. Both soluble and insoluble fibre have health benefits and are present in all vegetables. By including vegetables in your baking, you’re not only increasing the fibre content, but also making it more nourishing.
  3. McCain vegetables are harvested at the peak of perfection and are frozen at their freshest within hours. This maximises nutrient levels and makes it perfect for healthy baking.
  4. McCain vegetables are flash frozen for your convenience, resulting in easier portion control and less wastage. It’s perfect for baking because you only use what you need, reseal the pack and return it to the freezer until needed again.
  5. Vegetables such as McCain Diced Beetroot, McCain Pumpkin Chunks and McCain Baby Carrots contain natural sweetness and add flavour and moisture to bakes, allowing you to reduce the amount of added sugar. Half a cup of vegetable puree works well in most cakes, muffins and tea loaves.
  6. To make a vegetable puree that can be used in baking, simply cook about a cup of your favourite McCain veggie according to the instructions on the packaging and allow it to cool. Place in a food processor and pulse it until the vegetables form a smooth puree.
  7. If you want to reduce the amount of carbohydrates in your baking you can substitute half of the wheat flour requirement for almond flour. It will give a denser, more moist result while retaining deliciousness and adding wholesomeness.
