Shoprite opens 4 stores in 3 days providing jobs for 550 people

The Shoprite Group has announced that it has opened four new stores in areas not previously served by the retailer. These include two Shoprite stores and two Checkers stores (Checkers is owned by Shoprite Holdings Ltd).  Here is where you can find them:

• Checkers Jukskei Park (Johannesburg, Gauteng)
• Shoprite Rustenburg Mall (Rustenburg, North West)
• Checkers Rustenburg Mall (Rustenburg, North West)
• Shoprite Ekhaya Mall (Secunda, Mpumalanga)

  

Shoprite were early adopters in finding new ways of keeping customers and employees safe when COVID-19 arrived. In April 2020, the group became the country’s first food retailer to introduce contactless QR payments – allowing customers to pay for groceries with their phones. This payment option is available at the tills in all Shoprite, Usave, Checkers and Checkers Hyper stores.

While there’s certainly been a rise in the usage of food purchasing apps, many people still like to physically enter a brick-and-mortar supermarket, whether it’s to check the sell-by dates (yes, it’s a thing!) or to see what new products are on the shelves – and it seems that Shoprite isn’t the only retailer expanding its footprint. CapeTalk reports that Pick n Pay will invest a further R2.5 billion in new stores, after it opened 112 last year. This bodes well for job creation and economic growth.
