Winter is coming and with it the Real Tim Noakes Real Meal Banting Revolution is gaining momentum. I’m watching my Twitter stream explode with posts about where and what people are eating, and the virtual excitement of discovering a restaurant that is doing a Banting meal is prevalent.
It’s not that hard really – just substitute mashed potatoes with cauli-mash and you are already halfway there. So come on restaurants – if you just make a few menu adjustments, and let us know about it (we’ll share the love) and soon you’ll be inundated with Banting patrons.
Knead Bakery has just launched their low-carb bread at R55 a loaf. The other day I asked the manager on duty at the Palmyra branch how it was doing, she gave me a pained look and uttered 2 words… “handbag fights”.
Not everyone is sold on the old carb dusting though. If you are one of the 25 people still eating normal bread you might be just as excited about getting a toasted cheese sandwich delivered to your desk.
I’m telling you the world of food and clever pop-up ideas is just getting more and more mind-blowing every day. What’s next, Whisky flavoured bacon? Oh, wait…
Then you get the stalwarts – the one thing that comes around every year this time. Good old winter specials. You can’t swing a cat around the internet without hitting a winter specials page somewhere. It’s awesome. You can take a look and then decide where you are going on what day of the week based on what’s on offer. Even the decision making process is halved.
The V&A Waterfront in Cape Town alone is exploding with amazing deals.
