In the name of research we recently asked our friends on twitter to name some restaurants they would choose for a first date. The article concerned was on restaurant etiquette for first dates – have a read and see if you agree with the sentiments.
Anyway, it turned into a fun exercise with some great suggestions – and we really liked some of the reasoning behind them…
@uberfiend : Mundo Vida in Umdloti, great food unobtrusive service and if things go disastrously you can just gaze at the sea.
@AnyaFK : Unity Bar. Awesome music and you can play chess and backgammon.
@Jen_Thorpe : The Good Luck Club in Illovo. Not too formal, great food and also next door to Wolves. Go on regular dates with @MikeBaillie there.
Perfect name for a first date restaurant.
Of course we ended up having a discussion about in the office. Chef Caro declared the Pot Luck Club to be marriage material stuff, or some jam jars with the view at Polana would have her say ‘yes’ for sure… true story.
My suggestion of The Fat Cactus was met with looks like I had just crawled out of a chilli popper. But really – what could be more fun than some flavoured margaritas and a bit of spicy Mexican food (not too spicy now…).
Tess thought that perhaps The Baron in Jozi might be a good place to hook up for a drink. Not quite The Westcliff.
It’s definitely a personal thing and we would like to know where you would choose to take your new squeeze? Do you think it’s all about being romantic from the starting blocks, or perhaps less romance and more fun on that vital first date?
