The Food24 team pairs a dish with their fav romcom

Whenever romcoms are involved, so are love and good food and we’re so for this!

We asked the Food24 team to share their food pairings alongside their all-time favourite romantic comedy and here’s what they had to say:

“Mine would be My Big Fat Greek Wedding,” says head of content Tessa Purdon. “Paired with an incredible mezze feast – dolmades, dips, olives, falafel, halloumi, hummus, pita – all the things!”

“Eat Pray Love paired with pizza, red wine and, last but not least, chocolate gelato – all vegan, of course!” says group account coordinator Jeanine Boshoff.

Managing editor Lauren Josephs says: “Breakfast at Tiffany’s! I would pair this with a variety of yummy tapas and a chilled bottle of sauvignon blanc or some bubbles!”

“My all-time favourite romcom is Midnight in Paris,” says Ishani Chetty, Food24’s social media manager. “I would pair this with a creamy pasta, possibly alfredo (minus the bacon), and a glass of white wine with fresh bread.”

Food24 content producer Kgomotso Moncho-Maripane says: “Love Jones – paired with a delicious platter of dim sum, red wine and death-by-chocolate ice cream.”

Lauren Goldman, commissioning editor, reveals: “Mine is The Notebook, and I would enjoy it with a picnic (charcuterie, cheeses, fruit) and a bottle of wine, which I’ll imagine I’m eating while being rowed along in Cypress Gardens, Charleston – apparently that’s where that romantic boat scene was filmed.”

Bianca Jones, content producer, says: “I would pair 10 Things I Hate About You with cheesy “nacho-inspired” loaded fries – because they’re low-maintenance, fuss-free, a little messy and greasy (but in the best possible way, of course). They’re basically the perfect comfort food you can share or devour solo on a big comfy couch wearing your favourite PJs. This would be followed by enough chewy sweets and an assortment of bite-sized chocolates to (nearly) cause a sweet-induced stomachache, and maybe an ice-cold crème soda straight from the buddy-sized bottle, to adequately deal with the ups and downs that are the emotional rollercoaster of any captivating romcom.”
