Food, glorious food

It’s the start of the Food Fest season and I am soooo ready for some feasting!

Winter appears to have leapfrogged over Autumn here in the Cape and I am already thinking soups, pies and roasts – all the hearty, tummy-warming stuff that implies a genuine feast to me.

Cape Town kicks off the winter festival season with the fabulous Taste of Cape Town starting tonight. Featuring lots of amazing chefs such as Tanja Kruger from Makaron, Christo Pretorius from Azure, Henry Vigar from La Mouette, Stefan Marais from Societi, as well as a host of top pop-up restaurants and loads of wines and beers, it promises to be an amazing weekend of over-indulgence.

If you’re going to Taste of Cape Town on Friday evening or Sunday lunchtime, come and see me face-off to beer supremette, Lucy Corne in our Grape vs Grain debate – all the details are here.

I’m hoping to win for the honour of winos everywhere, but Lucy is equally determined that Team Beer will triumph so please come and make sure the RIGHT beverage wins! At the end of the day – it’s up to the audience so you will get to taste, form your own opinions and have your say.

We’ll also be at The Cheese Festival at the end of April as well as The Wine Show and the Good Food & Wine Show later in the year.

Our gorgeous ed, Caro de Waal has been cooking up a feast all of her own this last week at the pop up space, Spier Secret Courtyard.

If you missed her magical Far Away Tree dinner before Christmas, then you can check out the cool video. I was at the last event but missed this one and by the looks of things, I missed a stunner! The latest theme was ‘Street Food’ and with the help of her team, Caro concocted an amazing evening featuring this popular foodie trend. Check out all the pics and simply awesome video.

So much food, glorious food all around me at the moment! Bring on the big baggy sweaters, the elasticated-waist trousers and the comfortable shoes and let the feasting begin!

Over-indulgent hugs
