Food for game night!

It’s all happening!

The city is alive with electric vibrations from Friday and
World Cup fever has hit us with vuvuzela force. I was so proud of our boys and
nearly choked on my boerie roll when that ball hit the goal posts to draw the
SA vs Mexico game.

Many a big drink was drunk and as I picked up my hoarse
husband from Long Street that night, I wished I too had been chugging beer in
amongst the energy of the nation. Preggie as I am, I shall just have to blow my
vuvu and eat for Africa instead.

Last night’s controversial refereeing saw temperatures
running high and even more vuvuzela blowing, we won’t give up yet! One more
game to go and at least we have one golden goal under our belts.

The footie war is gripping and the vibe is coming out in the
homes and kitchens of us proud South Africans. Check out our blogger Jan
Tripepi
– this Italian mama sure knows how to throw a party. Sardines on Toast
is also in on the game and PinkPokaDot’s lamb racks looks lip-smackingly
good.

Bits of Carey treats us to some finger-licking chicken wings
and Simply Delicious’ patatas bravas with an SA kick will keep you jumping up
and down. And look at Spicy’s beautiful dip. You’re doing us proud guys, keep
up the amazing work!

The games so far have had a bit of everything with the
highlights (or lowlights!) including poor Robert Green obviously not getting
his English brekkie the morning that
ball popped out of his hands and rolled so beautifully into the net for the
Americans.

And the Aussies suffered a 4-0 thrashing from
the Germans who had definitely had their schnitzels that morning

Much hair-pulling was done in Spain yesterday with that
unbelievable loss to Switzerlanday caramba, and those Koreans managed a goal
against the strength of Brazil, quite unexpected.

So
come on Frenchies, keep Mexico at bay to keep us in the game and Chile – you must
beat Switzerland to go through. You’re on great form guys, keep
it up.

There is so much more to come and the battle with the little
black and white ball promises many tears shed in sadness and delight.

Love and eardrums in tact,
