Yes, we have our go-to traditional desserts and sweet treats but recipes have evolved so much that we now have an even wider variety of goodies to bake. Try your hand at a few of these delicious twists on the old classics!

First on our list is the traditional freshly baked milk tart, this always goes down well with a cup of tea.

And a great modern substitute are these milk tart stuffed churros. They make a delightful snack!

An all-time South African favourite is a slice of banana bread topped with butter.

However, there are many different ways to jazz up the banana bread recipe and we love this one –  bacon, peanut-butter banana bread. A delicious alternative to the OG version.

Go to any coffee shop in SA and you will surely find the classic carrot cake on display. Create your own carrot cake by following this simple and easy recipe.

While you’re at it you can also whip up a batch of these beautiful carrot cake cookies with cream cheese. Have fun decorating them.

Chocolate brownies always remind me of the Auntie at the school tuck-shop. They made the best lunchtime treat. Create these as a decadent pick-me-up snack during the day.

And a beautiful spin on brownies are these cheese-cake swirl brownies which give you the best of both worlds, cheesecake and chocolate.

We all know afternoon tea is incomplete without delicious freshly baked traditional scones with a bit of jam and clotted cream.

But scones don’t always need to be sweet, try these savoury cheese and herb scones. Serve them warm.

When it comes to the perfect Winter baked dessert, malva pudding wins hands down! Add some custard to it and dessert is sorted.

This caramel malva pudding with Cognac pears makes the perfect grown-up dessert and it’s a bit different to the usual.

And lastly the zesty, tangy lemon meringue is a baked goodie we could not leave off the list. Try baking your own with this quick and easy recipe.

Probably the best twist to an original recipe is these lemon meringue eclairs. These will be an absolute hit next time you’re entertaining guests.
