Winter warming wines and recipes

With snow predicted on Table Mountain last night (although no matter how
hard I look I can  never see it), we can all agree that winter is here.

I am compelled to set everything else aside and show you all
our latest favourite winter wonders on Food24. And in case you haven’t
noticed, we have a (snow-covered, apparently) mountain of warming winter recipes and wines.

Let’s start off with my new favourite thing on Food24: How Bits of Carey always manages to do it, I’ll never know, but here is her latest baking miracle, sticky peanut butter and banana pudding. Sweetness of Divinity.

This chicken bacon and gorgonzola pie had me cancelling all other Friday evening plans to stay in with it. And this amazing mutton curry? That is Saturday taken care off. What is Sunday without a roast? Can I suggest this crispy pork belly?

We have a whole hub dedicated especially to winter recipes, naturally, but if you’re in a rush to find a particular type of dish, you can quickly look through our soup, curry, pie, stew (maybe look a little longer), pasta, baking (quit staring), roast and vegetarian hubs. They are crammed full of our latest and greatest belly-warming recipes.

Our wine editor, Cathy Marston also has some great suggestions for keeping winter cooking costs down so you can spend more on heaters and tumble dryers.

June is also the month of warming winter wines and I’ll take this opportunity to thank Checkers for the amazing winter wine promotion
they currently have going on. There are so many quaffable wines on
promotion with loads of red wines perfect for this wintery weather,
plus, you can buy them all online – so convenient, you don’t have to
venture out. I’m sold.

So there you are cooks and wine drinkers. Winter is here and we are ready.
