Where to have your birthday party?

Some people just know how to celebrate a birthday.  They can take birthday partying to the next level. Their stamina is like that of an olympic athlete.

They have the best taste when it comes to trendy locations, like The Wolf Pack in Joburg and Publik Wine Bar in CPT and they are always in the know. Going out with them makes you feel like you’ve just spent your birthday with Jayz and Beyonce.

My advice (based on many years of birthday party success) is to get everyone you know to a nice restaurant with a good bar area, both are essential.

In Cape Town try The Black Sheep in Kloof Street, where I had birthday my party  last night. They served up a Chalmar beef and a chicken curry that was beyond delicious. A blackboard menu that changes daily, craft beer on tap and some good wines on the list – it really is a good place to celebrate.

El Burro is a lot of fun with some tasty Mexican, tequilas and cocktails. You need to book restaurants like La Mouette, Pierneef à La Motte and Burrata ahead of time, but it’s well worth it.

In Joburg, Mishmash in Greenside is a wine lovers paradise with bottles at retail prices. The Ale House is more laid back and has their own home brew. And Eatery Joburg has a private room upstairs with a bar for all your induing needs.

In Durbs try a high tea at the Fairmont Zimbali to spoil yourself and your friends (they serve alcoholic beverages, don’t worry). In P.E. give Bridge Street Brewery a try or pretty much anywhere in Stanley Street, Richmond Hill. And for restaurants near you, check out our listings and have your pick.

Birthdays are a wonderful thing and I’m a lucky cat to have such brilliant friends to celebrate with me.
