What? ANOTHER bake sale?

Hi everyone

If you’re also a parent, the phrase “bake sale” strikes as much fear into your heart as it does mine. As do the ancillary euphemisms: Entrepreneurs’ Day, Christmas Fair, Family Fun Day… yup.

All code for “Parents? Line up your baking tins, please!”

And if you are anything like me, you’re also FINISHED at this time of year. Honestly, it’s all I can do to get to work ‘n back without getting fired, and get some protein/veg/carb combo on the table each night. The idea of then producing one of those funkily festive rainbow cakes, on top of the basic daily grind? Not appealing.

(In fact, I actively CURSE whoever made those cakes fashionable. Who has that kind of time and skill to do RAINBOW LAYERS OF CAKE?)

So. I have developed a few Tired Mommy tricks:

•    If you put dried cranberries in a basic crunchie mix, it becomes instantly festive.
•    Popcorn is every mother’s friend. Especially if you make your kids fill all the little packets themselves, cos that’s the only time-consuming part.
•    …

Oh no. It appears those are my ONLY tricks. And I suspect the school might have got wise to them. Quick, Food24 readers… help!

Please email us your easy bake sale ideas, and we’ll send a copy of Deon Meyer’s new family friendly cookbook to the person with the most cunning one.

Love and pre-festive fatigue,
