Tips and tricks when making coffee

The myth about storing coffee:

Many people believe that storing ground coffee in the fridge keeps it fresh, but coffee’s biggest enemies are air, moisture and sunlight. So rather store your coffee in an airtight ceramic or plastic container in the cabinet or cupboard.

Add flavour to your coffee:

If you want to add some flair and additional flavour to your coffee, there are various ways to go about it. We suggest stirring your coffee with a cinnamon stick for a spicy flavour or adding vanilla flavoured milk for a creamy treat.

Hot Tip:

When you’ve brewed a fresh pot of coffee and you don’t use the entire pot, pour it into a thermos flask. This will keep it hot for hours and prevent the coffee from going stale.

Match your coffee and cup:

Serving coffee is very much like serving wine – the flavour of coffee is carried in part by the aroma and it’s important to serve it in cups, like glasses, that “deliver the aroma”.

– Espresso is mostly served in small, thick-walled cups with a gentle flare to the top.
– A cappuccino can be served in normal ceramic cups with saucers.
– Lattés and mochas are usually served in tall glass mugs.

Create a cappuccino at home:

Making a cappuccino might seem tricky, but it’s actually very simple. Follow these steps:

1. Brew coffee and pour into cups.
2. Heat up two cups of milk on the stove at medium heat and whisk vigorously until foam builds up.
3. Pour the steamed milk into the cups slowly.
4. Top with foam and voilà!

When making plunger coffee:

Wait at least 30 seconds before pouring boiling water over the coffee – this will help prevent the coffee from being scorched and bitter.
