The meal kit delivery service that takes the guesswork out of dinner planning

Never know what to cook for dinner? Tired of endless shopping trips? Luckily for you, there’s a new meal kit delivery service in town called Gutsy Green, which brings a box of ingredients and instructions straight to your door. And it’s healthy food, too.

“We send you pre-portioned ingredients with recipe cards to make deliciously creative meals at your home. We do everything for you besides cook. No more wastage, no more boring meals, no more shopping for ingredients, only easy-peasy, delicious, nutritious dinners for you and your family,” says the Gutsy Green website.

There are quite a number of meal kit delivery services out there, including Ucook and Daily Dish, so we asked Gutsy Green founder Kyle Moore how they differ from the rest.

“We are different in terms of meal selection. We allow our customers to choose recipes based on dietary needs (low-carb/ Banting or vegetarian) and we not only bring out nine new recipes each week, we allow customers to choose from our whole archive of recipes as well,” he says.

I tried out the service last week, and was impressed. What I love about Gutsy Green is that they allow customers to give back the packaging used during their last delivery on receipt of their next delivery. If you’ve ever used a meal kit delivery service, you’ll know how much packaging is used: tiny containers, plastic packets, small baggies, paper cartons, not to mention cooler bag materials and ice packs. After your second order, your kitchen is cluttered with needless packaging.

“We are currently working on securing jute packaging, which is a renewable plant material,” says Moore.

Gutsy Green is relatively affordable, considering the amount of time and effort you save on shopping. For three meals per week for one person it’s R305, for two people it’s R564, and for a family of four it’s R829. Delivery is free.

You can choose from dozens of meals, and they include delicious options such as crumbed chicken fillets, spicy chorizo paella, sirloin steak salad and home-made pork hamburgers with smashed avocado and lime. This is really the easiest and healthiest way to eat.
