The Grand’s Beach Boy pizza

Iconic rock legends The Beach Boys were the inspiration for
a new culinary creation when they visited Cape Town on the weekend.

The 1m-long Beach Boy Pizza, which contains the group’s favourite pizza ingredients, was
unveiled at the Grand Café & Beach after Beach Boys lead singer and founding
group member Mike Love suggested his favourite pizza toppings to Chef Seelan
Sundoo while visiting the restaurant.

While in Cape Town on their first ever South African tour, Mike
Love and other members of the reformed Beach Boys band took time out from their
busy tour schedule to explore the Cape, settling in style at the Grand Café
& Beach in Granger Bay.

Nicknamed the ‘beach boy’ of the Grand collection, the Grand
Café & Beach proved to be the perfect venue to relax and enjoy some fun in
the sun, as chef Seelan Sundoo treated the special guests to his newest
creation, the Grand Beach Boy Pizza, a pizza inspired by the iconic rock
legends.

A brand new Beach Boy dish

The “Grand Beach Boy Pizza” is an all-vegetarian, 1m long
pizza, topped with artichokes, tempura zucchini, baby marrows, calabaza squash,
porcini mushrooms, mixed peppers, cherry tomatoes, parmazan
shavings, fresh basil and ripe avocado.

“It was an absolute honour to
host such artistic legends at the Grand. The “Beach Boy” pizza has already
proven to be complete hit with customers. The colourful collaboration of
flavours perfectly represents our unique beach ‘vibe’ and all-round celebration
of summer,” says the Grand’s GM, Tom Jager.
