The Cape Town foodie boom

This morning we visited the best coffee shop in the world.

I know that sounds too good to be true. But it is the TRUTH.

@TRUTHcoffee was recently named the best coffee shop in the world by well known travel journo Tom Midlane who wrote the below sentence on Microsoft’s popular MSN Travel segment on the 25th September.

‘The best coffee shop in the world. Truth Coffee Shop: daring to be different.’

So we, glowing with pride, dropped in to visit David Donde at Truth Coffee HQ in Buitenkant Street. Check out the pictures on our @food24 twitter stream.

There’s just so much cool stuff happening in South Africa right now: With Rihanna’s awesome African instagrams getting about 40 million “likes” collectively, and Cape Town as the World Design Capital in 2014, there is a lot to be smiling about.

Let’s see what else is cooking in the Mother City.

Eat with Emma recently opened on Loop Street. A food stylist and recipe developer named Emma has decided to open up her ideas to the public in the form of a cute little café, serving healthy, unassuming food – and R10 flat white coffees before 10am. I could wake up there every day.

Isn’t The Woodstock Exchange just the trendiest thing you have ever seen? The place should have a warning sign!

As much as we want to keep Ocean Jewels a secret, we have to spread the good fish word about this tiny little eatery serving fresh caught fish for prices so low you won’t feel guilty when you order two meals.

The Sorbetiere is a magical fruit sorbet shop with freshly made seasonal flavours right around the corner from the Woodstock Exchange.

Anyone been to The Butcher Man in Green Point? Apparently it is a total meat experience.

Rumour has it Cape Town will have its very own wine bar soon, coming to you from some of the biggest names in the business. But more about that later.

If you have heard of anything amazing happening near you then please let us know about it. We’ll come and check it out.

Our intrepid Joburg foodster Kate Liquorish has been eating up a storm in Plett and Knysna. So we’ll be giving those amazing garden route restaurants some serious airtime come this holiday season.

Let’s give ourselves a pat on the back. It’s cool to be us right now.
