In Manila, this week, a French man jumped to his death just after he received a bill for his meal at a restaurant.
According to reports the man jumped four stories shortly after being presented with the bill for what turned out to be his last meal. Police said that the man died on impact after jumping from the fourth floor of a mall in central Manila, the Phillipine capital, late on Tuesday.
The man, Jean Louis Battail, ran up a bill of 4000-peso (R630) for his meal. Reportedly he was chased by a restaurant employee, after leaving the restaurant without paying, when he suddenly jumped from the Robinson’s Place Mall.
When we saw this story “Man sees bill, commits suicide”, we couldn’t help but wonder: Was he a suicidal foodie who wanted to end on a high note with a last meal at his favourite restaurant?
