Shimmy Beach Club breakfasts

himmy Beach Club, better known for hosting summer pool parties with SA band Goldfish, are now serving up breakfast in their restaurant.  Famous for sushi and pizza one would not expect Shimmy Beach Club to pop up on anybody’s Best Breakfast list – but, here are a few reasons you should definitely consider heading down there one Saturday morning to check out what they have on offer.

Top reason:

The breakfast pizza (R89) – baked to perfection in their pizza oven. This thin based pizza is crispy and deliciously decked with bacon, mushroom, tomato, caramelized onion, fried eggs and garnished with basil. It’s incredible. And easily shareable.

2nd  reason:

The vibe is great. Surprisingly peaceful with beautiful views, looking past a well-tended beach hosting a gravity pool with beach loungers, one looks out onto boats passing by the harbour out to sea. Call me crazy but it brought back memories of chilling in Ibiza. But that could have been the Café Del Mar tunes playing at just the right volume in the background. The service is also professional, friendly and attentive.

3rd  reason:

This was a tight race for 2nd. The banana flapjack stack (R55) with bacon lardons, berry compote and maple syrup with cinnamon sugar. Light fluffy flapjacks layered with incredibly fresh fruit scored very high with us.

4th reason:

Their scrambled eggs. I don’t know what they do but they are creamy and light and I’ve never tasted scrambled eggs like that before.

5th reason:

I myself am not a fan of Lavazza coffee. But each to his own, so therefore the coffee scored the lowest for me.  The orange juice was freshly squeezed and served ice cold, so next time I go, I’ll have a coffee on the way there and opt for some fresh juice – or even a glass of bubbly with my breakfast.

An altogether extremely pleasant experience and totally worth taking the drive out past the harbour and into the oasis that is Shimmy Beach Club.
