We enjoyed lunch at Shimmy's on 8 March 2013. Unfortunately it was raining on the day so we could not appreciate the views and "beach front" fully. The food was of a high quality and the service (Gavin) truly superb! Generally things were expensive but not out of the ordinary for a 5 star experience. We will be back in future.

i dissagree with alot of the comments, i went there with a group of 20 pax and there was not 1 negative comment, food and service was great, prices were reasonable , venue was amazing and had a fab time, i also met a few of the staff mentioned in previous reviews and they treated me like a star, so this customer was very happy and will be back often!!!!

Went to Shimmy with a friend in February one weekday afternoon. Parking issues already discussed, but to note that they have zoned off parking for the owners in front of the place. Jeeeesus - if I owned that place I would want my customers parking needs to be priority. Anyway - ordered a bottle of wine at the bar followed by cocktails. My opinion - if you have low self esteem and need to feel "in", then this place could do it for you. I rate it as crap!!

Simone, its is quite obvious (and by now should be a known fact by everyone) that Shimmy have the distasteful habit of upgrading drink orders. We also went there for dinner, ordered the Pierre Jourdan Tranquille (R140) and without showing us the bottle, our waiter proceeded to (almost) open a bottle of Pierre Jourdan Belle Rose MCC (R310) quite a difference in price. Quite a different drink too. When we stopped him and queried it, his attitude was arrogant and his reaction was 'well, what now, we are out of stock of the Tranquille, dont you want this?" We said no thanks and that was the last we saw of that waiter. If you order a brandy and coke, you are going to get premium brandy - same with the Gin. They used to offer two sizes of beer on tap, now they (apparently) on offer the large size (500ml). And if you order a still water, watch out, because you are going to get the imported Italian brand. Its a lovely place to go for drinks, a bit of a view, but sadly, you have to watch your drinks orders very carefully. If you want good food, service and view, go to Bungalow (in my opinion). At least the staff wont try crook you there.

We went to Shimmy on Saturday night and made a booking for 10 people. Our experience at Shimmy was disgusting to say the least. I have to start by saying that Rika from the reservations department was nothing but professional and the quality of the food was great. Our waitress Tara took our orders for drinks and meals. On the menu it is stated that the Shimmy house Rose (MCC sparkling) is R105 per bottle. When the waitress arrived she arrived with Pongrac Rose and we queried she replied it is in fact their house label MCC. Tara took our food orders and other staff brought the food in sections and at varying different times. She never returned to ask if we would like anything else or more drinks even dessert. It took us some time to gain her attention to get the bill, which after our surprise we were charged R280 for the bottles of "Shimmy House Rose". After a snotty discussing with our waitress that she commented that clearly the Rose on the menu is a wine not an MCC because how can you expect to get an MCC for R105? Even though the description says MCC.??? We then asked for an Manager 4 times and eventually had the pleasure of dealing with the delightful JP who got upset with us because we told him its bull&$)(;: that they charged us how they did and the waitresses attitude stinks. He told us that OBVIOUSLY it was a printing error and he would have given it to us at R105 per bottle if we were not so rude. So his "professional" decision was then to walk away from the table and leave us to deal with the waitress. We then decided that we would pay the amount as stated on the menu for the MCC minus the included 12,5% service charge. The waitress then replied we are money short and we should still pay the service charge (for obvious service we did not receive) we finally got a manager who was both professional and polite and he apologized for the incident (I unfortunately did not get his name, but thank you to him for calming the situation). I asked what the name of the other Manager was, JP walked up to me and was just about ready to slap me in the face. The other manager then told him to walk away, as he clearly me knew this guy would do something stupid. I told JP after touching him lightly on the arm that I would give him so good advice to not treat his customers in the way he does and he the pushed me away and told me " DON'T TOUCH ME!!!!, And if this all was not enough the waitress also proceeded to tell me and my friend that we we had to much to drink and that is why we are behaving the way we were! So Shimmy in Taylor Swifts words "We will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER EVER ... See you again! Train your staff on how to deal with people. It is ridiculous that in a place that prides itself on service and quality that this is the type of attitude you allow your staff to walk around with!

I booked for a family lunch for my partner's mom's birthday. When we arrived they had misplaced our reservation and after a heated discussion they said they could "accommodate" us on the pool deck - suitable for a couple of drinks, but not for dining. We ended up going to the Grand Beach Cafe and had an amazing experience there. I have had two good experiences at Shimmy with work functions, but after this last experience, I will not be going back.

Went for lunch on Friday and was pleasantly surprised. The steaks where good and not that expensive, the salads where excellent and the beer was cold. Service was enthusiastic if a little short on detail. Whoever the investors are they have done a great job well done for dropping an enormous amount of money and this type of venture, it must have cost a fortune and Cape Town needed this type of space, we will be back. For all those bitching about the prices and service charges, if you can't afford it-don't go.

If glamour, great views, icy beers, and an enticing warm pool are what you are after, then this is the place for you. On the down side expect no parking and really confused disinterested service and perhaps even no food at all. Their apologetic parking official suggested we park outside their grounds along the building sites and working area of the docks, but at our own risk, and a generous warning to “watch out for the cops they are ticketing”. Dining out 3 or 4 times a week for over 10 ten years, I have pretty much seen it all, but this front of house staff service was alarming. After much searching and frantic conversations into their Madonna-type headphones they finally found our booking. We were passed like the broken telephone game from front desk staff, to waiter and then to deck manager, having to explain our story to each of them. As the specific table we had booked was taken, we were shown to a table further back. Fortunately another table emptied soon afterwards and we took our place at the fabulous infinity pool. The deck staff were so casual and relaxed as they giggled and chatted away to each other they barely noticed the customers. Perhaps management is after the informal, “pizzeria round the corner” type service. Personally I expected quite a lot more from the image I assumed the restaurant was portraying. But the worst was from booking our table a few days before, to ordering our food from the waiter, no one mentioned that the outside area had a much smaller menu of just pizza and sushi and we weren’t allowed to eat off the “grown up” indoor menu outside. Sadly they couldn’t accommodate us inside. We did get a very warm farewell though and apologies from Linda at the front desk as we made our way to find another restaurant.

Maytal, have you ever actually eaten at a top-rated international restaurant? The food at Shimmy is certainly not gourmet and nowhere near the standard set by a good Cape Town restaurant. Your "review" is laughable and embarrassing.

This place has an incredible vibe! The food is gourmet and is as good as any top-rated international destination. Be prepared for a little south of France in Africa.

Limited menu, limited pizza, limited drinks. Not impressed at the 12.5% they slap on automatically! Tipping is a sign of good service, not an entitlement!

Staff who served us told us with smile on his face we were his last clients. It was such a mess that he couldn't do his job. Pizza's outside we're descent and 105R for a bottle of Rosé is reasonable. Bathroom floor provides plenty of Columbian marching powder..

We had lunch there on Saturday (12/01/2013). Great venue with great views. When the bill arrived after we were finished, it was noted that a 12.5% gratuity was automatically added, we were only three pax. If the service was good, this would have been OK. When queried with the waitron, he immediately offered to get it removed from the bill. Upon returning with the new bill, we were informed the reason for this is to pay for the barmen and managers and that the waitrons only get 5% (we did tip him 10%). We wondered how many people notice this and then also add a tip in the space provided at the bottom! Shame on you Shimmy!

Nice setting but thats about all. The food came in miniscule portions and was way to expensive for what you paid. The service was all over the place. Another Cape Town 'institution' in the making...in other words, bad service, bad food, expensive drinks but nice setting!!

I have been to Shimmy Beach both to Dine and for a razzle, the location is unique and the food incredible, Service has also improved dramatically for a venue that has been open less than a month, I have tried the Pizza's , Sushi and Sea food platters, all excellent.

We went there over the holidays and were not impressed. Its crazily overpriced for a bar posing as a restaurant. But then again people in CT love to be seen no matter how much it costs them. I dont see this place lasting more than a year or two what with its position in a stinking harbour
