Sandwich wars

Sandwiches
were the game on episode 5 of MasterChef SA season 2.   But when the top 16 walked into the epic
Woolworth’s pantry (insert swoon here) there was a catch, because there’s
always a catch.

Pete told the Top 16 that they had full access to the fabulous pantry
but there is no bread in there. “You will have to bake your own bread from
scratch and then make a fantastic filling that will really blow us away.”

These crafty
chefs would have to make their own dough in a matter of hours and use it for
decadent sandwiches that would not only be judged on what’s inside but for the
first time in your life you hear “it’s what’s on the outside that counts”, yes,
your parents lied to you.

The top 16
are fighting tooth and nail to create dishes that are inspiring, representative
of themselves, and not just their own best dish, but a dish that’s better than
everyone else’s best dish.  Shannon from
Sea Point couldn’t have said it better “It’s about beating someone’s best
sandwich”.

As Mary, Khumo, Tumi,
Seline, Shannon and Neil all head into the Elimination Round this evening we
become more attached to what seem like soapie characters.  We’re sad to see one person go but we’re
totally digging the juicy drama.
