SA mixologist joins the World Class greats

Cape Town mixologist, Nick Koumbarakis of The Orphanage Cocktail Emporium, has been inducted into the Diageo World Class Mixology Hall of Fame after his strong showing in the recent Diageo World Class Competition earlier this month.

Nick the great:

Held on board the cruise ship Azamara Journey in the Mediterranean, Nick mixed it up with 44 other bar-tenders from around the world in the competition which was eventually won by Spain’s David Rios.

‘Being inducted into the Hall of Fame is an incredible honour and it is truly gratifying to be recognised alongside the world’s most prestigious mixologists,’ says Nick Koumbarakis.

World Class success:

Since its launch in 2009, WORLD CLASS has enjoyed unprecedented success to become the world’s leading, most prestigious luxury drinks training programme and not only elevates the craft of bartending but has become a global leader for setting cocktail trends, with winners instantly being propelled into the global limelight.

Previous winners of Diageo Reserve WORLD CLASS Bartender of the Year and Hall of Fame inductees have become recognised industry names, travelling the globe as WORLD CLASS Ambassadors and participating in high-profile, international events.

All star:

‘Nick’s honour of being inducted into the World Class Hall of Fame can be attributed to his impeccable technique, beautifully balanced drinks and ability to charm the guest,’ says Dominic Bothner, brandhouse Reserve’s National Category Development Manager.
