Rooibos Industry salutes those on the frontline and donates over 30 000 cups of tea to healthcare workers

The South African Rooibos Council (SARC) strives to keep healthcare workers healthy and hydrated by donating Rooibos tea as they assiduously fight on the frontlines of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“It’s humbling to think that there are literally millions of medical staff around the world right now that are putting their lives on the line, often with limited resources. The donation is our way of showing appreciating and saying thank you for going beyond caring for patients during the pandemic. You are our true national heroes!” Says Adele du Toit, spokesperson for the SARC.

Hospital staff tea breaks have since received much-needed caffeine-free hydration and an antioxidant-rich immune boost after the donation of more than 30 000 cups of Rooibos tea in the Cape and 48 000 cups of Rooibos tea across KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

The generous donation goes far beyond the tea-room for those braving the pandemic. “The donation of Rooibos tea has warmed our hearts and given staff a new spring in their step.” Says Dr Laurene Booyens, Medical Services Manager at Groote Schuur Hospital.

There is nothing quite like a steaming stream of Rooibos tea to keep the immune system strong and boost morale when we need it the most. Here’s to all the healthcare workers. You deserve an infinite amount of Rooibos-fuelled tea breaks!
