Right. NOW the party starts…

Hi everyone

After I got over my stupendous ‘We beat
FRANCE!’ hangover yesterday, I found I was experiencing a strange feeling of
release.

You know that feeling when your dinner
party is in full swing, the guests have bonded, all the cooking’s done, and all
that’s required from you any more is to kick off your shoes and enjoy yourself?

That’s how I feel about the World Cup now
that SA is out.

Our boys did us so proud, didn’t they? And
now we can release our collective breath and get down to the real business at
hand. Because now that our eyes and hearts are no longer glued to our boys in
yellow, we’ve all noticed that we are in the middle of throwing the biggest
party in our country’s history. And doing a pretty good job of it.

And folks? We’re are only halfway! It’s
time to kick it up yet another notch and like Kuhne during the opening game,
ask: “Is this all the noise we can make?” And our answer? “Hell, no!”

Which is why our intrepid intern Lauren has
rounded up more easy, delicious World
Cup feasts
to allow you to fake Domestic Goddessness, and still get the
chance to drink a few not-Budweisers and have some corker vuvuzela moments. And
why wine editor Cathy Marston has chosen her top proudly South African wines to ply all your foreign friends with.

And our bloggers, well… I had NO IDEA we
were quite this cool? Between Jan’s socceritis omelette, Clever Cook’s funky
flag crudités
and Potjie’s, well, potjies… we’re clearly not the only people
partying our rainbow-coloured socks off at the moment.

Of course, not everyone is playing nicely…
and our Restaurant Editor, Cath Shone, has been dishing out red cards to those who are letting our
side down by hiking up their prices. (Waterfront? We’re looking at YOU.)

And if you’re struggling to find themes for
your third straight week of soccer parties, we found a tweet that should
inspire you, by Put Foot Rally:

“This World Cup
is working out like WW2 – France have forfeited, the USA turned up late, and
England are left to fight the Germans!”

Funny, ne? Heh
heh. Have you ever enjoyed being South African MORE? I haven’t. Which is why I
am also cooking up some good old SA favourites like this funky boerewors goulash, oxtail stew with mealiepap and a silky milk tart.

All in all, I
hope you are having as fun a World Cup as I am. And hopefully, our livers will
forgive us in due course.

Love and great
blasts of pride,
