Road trips can often be costly, not only is the petrol price expensive, so is the food at service stations, restaurants and drive-thru’s. Try these recipes for the ultimate padkos food, it’s all neatly packed, no one argues about where he or she wants to eat and a bonus is that you can stop along the road and take in those scenic views.

Packing

Ensure you have enough ice packs and a proper cooler bag or box to store your food items. You don’t want to use a bag of ice as this will melt and potentially leak. Pack everyone’s food individually in containers and don’t forget the wet wipes. Have a bag for all your disposable items that you can throw out in the bin at the nearest service station to avoid an overload of clutter in your car.

Coffee and drinks

Make your own flask of coffee or tea, this will save you plenty of cash. Freeze your water bottle half full with water the night before and top it up with fresh water the morning of your road trip. This way, you will have a supply of cold water for an hour or two.

Snacks

It can be tempting to grab a packet of chips, a slab of chocolate or sweets at a petrol station when you’re filling up. Instead of wasting unnecessary money, make your own snacks like vegetable chips or protein balls

Beetroot crisps

Meals

You want to pack in meals that are nutritious and filling and will limit you to any feelings of sluggishness. Great ideas for wholesome foods to pack would be muffins, wraps and salads, packed in individual jars and wrappers that are ready to serve when you are.
