Of course Cape Town has high-end artisanal food trucks…

Summer is almost upon us, which means it’s time for festivals, outdoor events and soaking up the sun. Cape Town has jumped on the American trend of food trucks and one can usually find a wide selection of them at events all over the city.

We have hunted down, searched for and tasted the best of what Cape Town food trucks have to offer. Here’s a list of food trucks that you simply have to try.

1. Posh Nosh Africa

Posh Nosh Africa has two Cape Town trucks which serve such delicacies such as Thai rolled ice-cream, pancake dogs on a stick, bunny chow and many others. The business is run by three partners who have plenty of food industry experience between them.

Where can you find them: You can find Posh Nosh Africa mostly in Somerset West and Paternoster, although they travel around the West Coast for events such as the Vensters Festival and the Absa Cape Epic.

2. Lotus Food Truck

If you are in the mood for some Asian street food, try the Lotus Food Truck which uses fresh, seasonal ingredients to create all your favourite dishes like satays and beef short rib from scratch.

Where can you find them: During the week you can find Lotus Food Truck at the Salt River Arcade. They can also be hired for private and corporate events, as well as festivals including Rocking the Daisies and Ultra.

3. Pizza Piaggo

If pizza is more your style, try Pizza Piaggo which has a specially-built wood fire oven custom fitted into the back of their original Italian Piaggo Ape, whom they have named Terrence. They use the finest Italian pizza flour to make their dough, and use fresh buffalo Mozzarella as well as a host of other ingredients to make their tasty pizzas.

Where can you find them: On Saturdays, you can find Pizza Piaggio at the Old Biscuit Mill’s Neighbourgoods Market, as well as at various festivals and local markets. They are also available for private functions.

4. The Mad Batter

If it’s something sweet that you are craving, The Mad Batter is the food truck for you. Based on the story of Alice in Wonderland, they create delicious treats such as ‘waffle on a stick’, rusks, moerkoffie, meringues, and pancakes. Their menu changes constantly.

Where can you find them: They are at the Franschhoek Village Market on Saturdays, as well as various other festivals and events. They are also available for private and corporate events.

5.     HeMazing

HeMazing is a popular food truck with those who love gourmet Indian cuisine. They cater to different dietary requirements from vegans to Banters to Halaal and kosher friendly fare. They use a variety of home-ground spices and offer curry bowls, Aloo Tikki burgers, Indian nachos and much more.

Where can you find them: They can be found at various festivals such as the Constantia Gift Fair, Design Indaba and the Winelands Chocolate Festival. They are also available for private and corporate functions.

6. 4Roomed Ekasi Culture

A good balance is the aim of the Khayelitsha-based food truck, which serves delicious township staples with a healthy element and a gourmet twist. They also work to uplift their community by sourcing their fresh produce from Moya Wekhaya organic garden.

Where can you find them: You can find them opposite Luhlaza High School in Khayelitsha. They are also available for private events within a 60km radius of Cape Town International Airport.

7. FrozenYo

Cape Town’s first frozen yoghurt food truck, FrozenYO has a variety of different flavours and toppings such as Oreo, Turkish delight, and fresh fruit. They also have a host of savoury items on the menu such as breakfast waffles.

Where can you find them: You can find FrozenYO at their physical store in Blouberg, as well as various markets and festivals. They are also available for private functions.

8. Syriana Food Truck

If you enjoy Middle Eastern cuisine, you must try Syriana Food Truck, which is born out of the restaurant of the same name in Woodstock. Syriana serves a selection of delicious shwarmas and falafels that have that authentic Syrian taste.

Where can you find them: Syriana Food Truck can be found at the Old Biscuit Mill on Saturdays and at the Vineyard Oval Market on Mondays.

9. Black Beer’d

If you are in the mood for seafood, try Black Beer’d. Black Beer’d was born after the owners visited the Jack Black Brewery in Diep River and came up with the idea of combining craft beer with fresh fish, which resulted in an original beer batter recipe which is irresistible. The menu has various dishes such as hake burgers, tuna and prawn kebabs and much more.

Where can you find them: Black Beer’d can be found at the Jack Black Food Truck Fridays, the Constantia Gift Fair, various markets. They are also available for hire for corporate functions.
