No more El Bulli

Last month the foodie world was shocked at the news that the world’s number one restaurant, El Bulli, would be closing for the years 2012 and 2013.

Ferran Adria has, once again, caused a ripple with his latest news – El Bulli will be closing permanently.  in December 2011.

Ferran has said that he made his decision based on the fact that he and his partner, Juli Soler, have been losing half a million Euros a year on the 3-starred Michelin restaurant and his cooking workshop (used for experimenting and developing new techniques and recipes) in Barcelona.

Adria said that his money (earned from consulting and other businesses) would be put to better use in the form of an academy for advanced cuisine, offering scholarships for talented chefs from around the world.

Though the gourmet world is undoubtedly upset over the loss of an extraordinary restaurant, we can be certain that this new chapter will introduce many talented chefs to the world. And with the backing and guidance from Adria these future gourmands will undeniably bring with them new ideas and visions for our hungry hearts.
