We reveal the results of our smooth apricot jam Food24 taste test

apricot-jam-taste-test

We taste-tested 5 different brands of smooth tinned apricot jam with just one goal in mind – to find the best-tasting one! Why, might you wonder? Because taste tests are our “jam”, and we want to simplify your shopping and satisfy your taste buds!

Factors including sweetness, flavour, texture and consistency were used to determine which smooth tinned apricot jam is the best.

Here are our jam-packed results:

Rhodes Quality Smooth Apricot Jam 3/5

Tasters noted that while the apricot flavour did come through, it was very sweet and far too firm, noting that spreadability is a very important factor to take into consideration where jam is concerned!

Cost: R28.99 for 450g tin

Woolworths Smooth Apricot Jam 2/5

Tasters noted that this sample was very thick, far from jammy and the sweetness overpowered the apricot flavour. Both factors affected the overall score. While this sample supplied a good amount of apricot flavour, the lack of jammy-ness just couldn’t be overlooked!

Cost: R26.99 for 450g tin

Pick n Pay Smooth Apricot Jam 4.5/5

Tasters noted it was perfectly sweet, as any good jam should be, and the jammy consistency was unmatched (compared to the other jams sampled on the day). The apricot flavour came through nicely too, scoring Pick n Pay’s smooth apricot jam a win for the day.

Cost: R35.99 for 900g tin

All Gold Smooth Apricot Jam 2.5/5

Tasters noted that this sample was light on the apricot flavour, the texture was somewhat grainy and the consistency was more on the firm side. All three factors are super important when jam enjoyment is involved!

Cost: R27.99 for 450g tin

Checkers Smooth Apricot Jam 3.5/5

Tasters noted that this jam was perfectly jammy and sweet with a nice apricot taste, scoring Checkers’ house brand smooth apricot jam a sweet second place in the taste test!

Cost: R25.99 for 450g tin
