Lust Bistro & Bakery

Take a drive through to the scenic old town of Franschhoek and pay Lust Bistro & Bakery a visit. Other than their usual a-la-carte menu and chalkboard specials, they’re having a breakfast and lunch self-help buffet for Mother’s Day. Breakfast menu items include mushroom and spinach egg roulade, freshly baked pastry platters, fresh figs wrapped in Parma ham and more. The lunch buffet items are among the likes of roasted lamb shoulder with fig and olive, creamy Cape seafood and saffron risotto bake and more vegetarian options. Situated snugly in the folds of a peaceful wine estate, Lust is the perfect place to go when you want a break from the bustling city. The term “industrial loft meets farm house” ideally describes the interior which boasts with lots of natural light, exposed wood and large pendant lights dangling from the roof. Booking is essential.

The Conservatory, at The 12 Apostles Hotel

One of the many things that The 12 Apostles Hotel is known for is their delightful Tea by the Sea. Freshly baked scones, cupcakes and macaroons accompanied with a selection of tea and coffee is the order of the afternoon. For Mothers Day this year they are hosting a Mother’s Day High Tea at their restaurant, The Conservatory. A high tea buffet, featuring both sweet and savoury options, will be on offer and served with an extensive selection of teas.

The Atlantic at The Table Bay Hotel

The Table Bay Hotel has quite a jam-packed Mother’s Day line up this year. Things kick off with a Mother’s Day Inspired Mini Chefs workshop, where kids between the ages of 6 and 12 have the opportunity to be taught how to whip up a hearty Mothers Day Breakfast for mom. On Mother’s Day a luncheon will take place at The Atlantic. Thereafter a Mother’s Day Sensory High Tea will take place in the famous Lounge. The Table Bay’s boutique fragrance range, KAAP IN conjunction with the hotels pastry sous chef will be hosting. Guests can expect a decadent spread of sweet treats, savouries, desserts and cakes.

The Benguela on Main

If your mom is into fine dining the exquisite Benguela out in Somerset West is a fine choice. On Mother’s Day they have a special tasting planned. They are also hosting a Mother’s day lunch where guests can enjoy a meal prepared by Chef Jean Delport while marveling at views of the Palmiet Mountain and Nature Reserve.

Radisson Blu Waterfront

Tobagos restaurant at the Radisson Blu hotel is hosting a “Mad Hatters” lunch for Mother’s day this year. Treat your mom to their three course lunch buffet which includes carvery, salads and a selection of desserts. The restaurant boasts with magnificent views of the Atlantic which can be seen from both inside and outside. Your ticket also gets you a discounted spa voucher and a voucher for two people for wine and chocolate tasting.

Rosemary Hill Farm

This farm venue sets the perfect scene for your mom to escape the busy city life in exchange for some crispy, fresh air, peace and tranquility. This year Rosemary Hill farm combines two of the most-loved Sunday activities – picnics and a high tea. Your ticket gets you homemade lemonade, bottomless filter coffee, maple-glazed pork belly with fermented pear chutney, sweet treats like apple crumble and much more. All you have to bring is your mom, a blanket and wine.

Harissa Bistro

Harissa Bistro is the ideal place to treat your mom to breakfast, lunch, dinner or dessert, Situated at The Club Centre in Hazelwood the restaurant’s interior is modern and pretty simple with some impressive Gaudi-inspired woodwork. Breakfast items include the usual suspects – English breakfast, omelets etc – while chili salted squid, goats cheese bouche and beef bobotie samoosas form part of some of the starters and dishes like beef rump and prawn risotto feature on the mains menu.

Al Fiume 

Al Fiume – Italian for ‘at the river’ – is situated at the splendid River Place lodge. The restaurant is set on a wooden deck on the banks of the Hennops River. If the weather permits you can soak up the sun on the deck or sit in the restaurant while admiring the leafs floating on the river. Their menu is inspired by all things fresh and seasonal.

Durban

The Oyster Box

The charmingly luxurious Oyster Box out in Durban’s Umhlanga rocks is hosting both a Mothers Day high tea and lunch at their all-white Pearl room. The Pearl room offers breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean and it’s interior is adorned with mirrored walls and Venetian chandeliers dancing in the roof. At the high tea you can expect lovely live piano music and no less than 20 sweet and savoury treats and pastries including
freshly baked scones, cakes, quiches and more. If its lunch that you’re after, a Mothers day lunch on their Ocean Terrace is also on offer.

The Sugar Club

Also in Umhlanga, situated right on the beach front is The Sugar Club at The Beverly Hills Hotel. If you’re looking to have a luxurious fine dining experience, this is the place to go. The restaurant boasts with scenic views of the ocean and plush, velvet chairs. They offer breakfast, dessert and an impressive wine list too. You can also treat your mom to a bespoke tea, served in their Lounge everyday or to the Sunday lunch buffet.

Vasco’s at The Hilton Hotel

Another hotel offering a Mothers Day Lunch is Vascos at The Hilton Hotel. They’ll be having a buffet with seasonal specialties including local seafood.
Eight different food stations – including salads, soup, breads, carvery, tandoor, pasta, dessert – will be on offer.

Port Elizabeth 

Rhubarb and Lime
This upmarket café, affectionately known by the locals as the Rhubarb, will suffice as the ideal place to treat your mom to breakfast -served all

Two Olives is a Mediterranean, tapas-style restaurant. The setting is quaint and understated with the focus on the Spanish and Mediterranean inspired food, made using simple

The Chartroom

If you’re after a meal accompanied by and unbeatable view, the Chartroom Restaurant will not disappoint. Situated at The Algoa Bay Yacht club, the restaurant boasts with up close and personal views of the crystal clear waters and you can watch the yachts sailing into the marina. Their menu offers something for everyone – starters, salads, burgers, pizza, grills and fresh seafood.

Stonehaven on Vaal boasts with the largest garden is SA which naturally makes it a pretty charming place to spend Mothers Day. The serve breakfast, light meals and they have a Sunday a la cart menu which also includes a kiddies menu. Sit outside and marvel at their 100s of rose bushes, ponds and water features. They are also doggie friendly and if you take a walk in their garden you’ll be greeted by 200 quirky old milk cans and cute quotes.

The Atrium Restaurant at InterContinental Hotel 

The Atrium at Sandton’s InterContinental Hotel offers a Mothers Day lunch buffet accompanied by live music this year. You can expect a menu that combines international expertise with an African flair. The package also includes a welcome drink and a gift for mom
