La Colombe has long been one of South Africa’s best-loved, and most respected fine dining restaurants. Known for its local take on classic French themes, this well-established restaurant has announced a new chapter in its journey.

This week, chef-proprietor, Scot Kirton, announced that he is handing over the position of Executive Chef to long-time Head Chef and colleague, James Gaag.

“James…has proved himself to be one of the leading innovative chefs in South Africa. He has lead the committed team in the kitchen faultlessly, and we are delighted to appoint him in this prestigious role,” says Scot.

Kirton adds that he will be assuming a very active role in the upcoming renovations planned for La Colombe, as well as managing his ever-growing collection of restaurants  – including Foxcroft, Constantia and La Petite Colombe, Franschhoek

James has headed up the kitchen for the past 4 years and is known in the La Colombe family for his relentless work ethic, dedication to quality and a fearless approach to fine dining in a South African context. At 29, James will bring a fresh vitality to the respected restaurant, who some say, has lost a little bit of lustre in the past few years.

“It is fantastic to finally realise my dream of running La Colombe. Taking over the reigns is something I have aspired to for the past 8 years. I’m extremely excited for this new and exciting chapter, and the challenges which lie ahead,” James said, with his characteristic cheeky smile.

La Colombe will be closed for a 6 week period from 28 May 2018, during which time the management team will be executing a major renovation while Chef James and his kitchen team work on new, exciting flavour combinations.
