Myoga restaurant snuggles elegantly in The Vineyard Hotel in
Newlands, Cape Town.
It is a strikingly good-looking restaurant with an open
kitchen and an opulent, modern feel. The bathrooms are futuristically funky and the view, if you’re there for lunch is eye-poppingly beautiful.
The best part? They run a 7 course tasting menu for R225.
In my opinion, no other restaurant has been able to pull this
off and retain such a high standard of food.
The food
The menu has 5 choices per course and there is something for everyone. What I like
about this is that you can control how your menu unfolds ie: you can choose fresh,
healthier dishes for some of the courses, and heavier, richer dishes for
others.
My favourites:
Mouth tickler – the salt and pepper prawn rules.
Starter – thai mussel chowder – insane flavours.
Salad – crispy duck – how could it not be?
Pasta – seafood linguine exceptional and the gorgonzola gnocchi was rich and
wonderful.
Main – spicy whitefish – it is a very interesting fish dish.
Sweets – the chocolate! If you are adventurous, try the bacon and brie crumble,
it’s very savoury and interesting.
Wine
The pairing with the wine does lob on an extra R185, but I was extremely
impressed by the sommelier and her pairings. They were all spot-on, interesting
and a good overview of SA wines.
Why go there?
If you’re a foodie. If you’re trying to get romantic or just feel like a
stunning night out.
