Food Bloggers Conference 2010

If you are a South
African food blogger worth your fleur de sel, you will no doubt have
looked on with envy as your American and British counterparts attended the BlogHer
Food
and Food Blogger Connect
conferences in the US and
the UK.
Reams of Tweets reported back on the excellent presentations, and websites filled
up with pictures of happy food bloggers finally meeting and mingling “in
real life”.  Admit it – you felt
left out and unloved.

Well, feel unloved no
longer, because Cape Town
is about to take its place on the world food blogging conference map.  Since 2005, the number of South African food
blogs has exploded, and organizer Colleen Grove of Kitchen Diary felt that the
time for such a conference was ripe. On Sunday 21 March, the inaugural South
African Food Blogger Conference will be taking place in Cape Town, with a delectable array of
speakers and sponsors to satisfy the most ardent food blogger. The agenda will
include something for everyone, from new food bloggers who are just starting
out, to experienced food bloggers wanting to build traffic or take their
photography to another level.

Speakers on the day
will include:

· Jeanne Horak-Druiff of CookSister! on writing skills, tips for
better blogging, and legal issues in blogging.

· Sam Wilson of Food24 on promoting your blog via social
media.

· Nina Timm of My Easy Cooking on getting to know
your camera, food styling and monetizing your blog.

· Jane-Anne Hobbs of Scrumptious South Africa on
recipe writing and editing.

And
as if that were not enough, there is an array of corporate sponsors who will be
providing goodie bags and giveaways throughout the day, including Food24, The Caviar Group, Lindt Chocolate, Arniston Bay Wines, Taste of Cape Town, Orangina, Seaharvest, Verlaque Foods, Yuppiechef, Kara’s Original Greek Herb Dressing,
Willow Creek, My Easy Cooking and a few more still
awaiting confirmation – so nobody will be leaving empty-handed.

It
promises to be a great day, packed with useful presentations and the chance to
meet face to face with other bloggers you know so well online, as well as a
buffet lunch.
