In a recent article, The Independent UK reported, that
Belgians are concerned for authenticity of their chocolate as big multinational companies snatch up smaller artisan chocolate brands across the country.

The chocolate itself loses its origin when being produced in
foreign countries yet is still being dubbed as Belgian, making us question is
Belgian chocolate really Belgian? And what is the difference in chocolate
quality from Belgian and Swiss chocolate in comparison to South African
Chocolate?

As consumers, we are
becoming more mindful of the origins of the foods we eat, the conditions of the
workers who produce these items as well as the farms they come from, so why do
we flock to purchase say “Belgian chocolate” when we have chocolate of the same
if not better quality produced right here on our soil?

South African chocolatiers have made a name for themselves
in this industry with dedicated chocolate cafe’s, chocolate workshops and
boutique chocolatiers where you can indulge in chocolate to your heart’s
content.

These places are brimming with creative choices of uniquely
flavoured chocolate bars, delectable truffles and treats; they’re fit to
compete with international chocolate powerhouses.

By supporting local chocolatiers, simultaneously you’re
supporting the African farms where they source their beans from as there is a
growing concern on how many child labourers are working on these cocoa
producing farms.

We’ve listed 4 South African Chocolatiers who work directly with cocoa bean farmers to produce their incredible
delicacies – this way you know exactly where your cocoa beans come from and how
it’s made.
