Braai Hard with a Vengeance

I’m very excited, and a little nervous for Monday the 24th September. About 40 of our closest friends (and 30 of their spawn) are taking part in the 4th annual #braaihard “Free Braaing” competition.

It’s getting bigger every year and it’s all taking place at Chef Caro’s house, complete with tree-house, hen house, trampoline and swimming pool. I don’t know which I am most excited about.

2011’s trophy holders won with their homemade ‘Haiku’ chops that had been tested and re-tested for months previously to get the exact flavour. Simple, but worthy of the coveted trophy. (Yes we really do have a trophy).

There was stiff competition for 2nd and 3rd spot with a homemade tandoori oven and pork belly on the braai.

This year, for fear of being shown up again, the 10 teams are going ALL OUT with secret recipes, delivery of extensive braai equipment to Caro’s house and pre #braaihard strategy meetings taking place all over Cape Town. Yes, we know who you are.

And, not to miss an opportunity to show off to our foodie friends, Caro and I have gone and “hired” (ie: bribed with the promise of much to drink) some celebrity judges. Nogal. Celebrity of course being our ex-very-own Sam Wilson, the fabulous Paul Raphaely from NoMu and published food blogger Sam Linsell from Drizzle and Dip.

I told you we are going big.

How big are you going?

We would like to know what you have planned for Braai Day? Are you braaing hard like us? Or heading away for the weekend?  Are you going to the rocking cool beer fest at Hamilton’s with Jack Parow headlining? Or are you packing the cooler box and heading to another cool event?

Please let us know so we can share our National Heritage Day celebrations together.  If you are twittering on the day, please use the #braaihard hashtag and we will ReTweet all the fun things! (Whilst trampolining like a pro).

Also please email us at editor@food24.com with some of your kick-ass Braai Day plans and we’ll share them with our readers.

We’ll even send a R250 Kalahari voucher to the best braai  idea to hit our grid.

If you are braaing hard like us, then you might want to check out our awesome braai section with kiff recipes and tips from Jan Braai himself. The man can braai a chop! You can win a copy of his new book Fireworks here on Food24.

We also have Best Value Braai Wines from Cathy Marston, and other fabulous braai stuffs. You can even braai with gas if you like. 😉

Bring it on.

Bra.
