Battle of the burgers

Hi everyone

Teaching kids to eat well is a tricky business, especially {ahem} if you don’t eat that great yourself. So imagine my joy the other day when my son looked up from a homemade burger, wiped some tomato juice off his little chin and said: “Mom? The burgers you make are the best in the world.”

Readers, my little mommy heart sang with joy. I felt like ringing Jamie Oliver up and saying: “You see? You SEE? I am not ALL BAD!” But I restrained myself, because I understand the wildly famous deserve their privacy and because he must be tired, what with having a new 3-week-old son. But mostly because I don’t have his number and he’s never heard of me.

So in celebration of my small step on the road to building sons with healthy eating habits, today we bring you a whole host of delicious, healthy homemade burger recipes.  From lamb to lentils, chicken to chickpeas, beef to, er, more beef… we’ve got your patty passions covered.

On the other hand, I don’t know a family that would survive without the 80/20 rule. Recently, my boys and I reviewed the slightly dodgy but incredibly delicious Saul’s burger in Wynberg, which we have pronounced our favourite non-homemade burger.

But we need your recommendations too. Do you have a fabulous homemade burger recipe? Send it to us, with a pic! And we also want your favourite eat-out burgers – from gourmet to comforting – from all across the country, so email us the details or search for your favourite burger joint on Food24 and review away.

So go on, send and recommend! A Food24 apron (worth over R150) will be winging its way to both the best recipe and best restaurant burger review.

Love, with relish
