7 restaurants in Cape Town serving delicious health food

Eating out when you’re trying to watch your weight or simply trying to be a little healthier can be difficult when there are so many tempting dishes out there.

Here is a list of great places to eat – offering healthy food without compromising on taste!

Addis in Cape

Addis in Cape specializes in Ethiopian eats, offering delectable treats for both vegetarians and meat eaters. Their foods are completely gluten free and are bursting with flavour. Their dishes are served on Injera, a pancake-like sour dough base. If it’s your first time, opt for the set menu to get the full experience, and end it off with some coffee served the traditional way – with popcorn.

Bistrot Bizerca

Bistrot Bizerca is known for its fine dining and excellent execution. The foods they prepare are incredibly light on the palate, made from ingredients sourced seasonally and locally. When watching your health a salad is often regarded as the boring option, but Bizerca’s tuna and melon salad will have you wanting to eat only that to stay happy and healthy.

Dear Me

Dear Me is an all-day brasserie nestled in a 200-year old heritage building, which adds to its character and charm. They believe in serving simple and honest foods that stay true to the integrity of the ingredients. If you have any type of food intolerance, this is the perfect place as they alter any dish to suit your specific dietary requirements. This is definitely the place for guilt-free fresh food enjoyment.

Bedouin Café & Deli

Bedouin Café & Deli specializes in homemade artisanal labneh cream cheese, which is a great substitute for traditional cream cheese as it is lower in calories and has zero added preservatives. Bedouin’s labneh features in many of their dishes at the restaurant, like their famous sumac chicken wrap and their deliciously crunchy Lebanese chickpea salad which is dressed with a simple lemon juice and olive oil dressing which is to die for.

Wellness Café

Nestled in the back of the Wellness Warehouse in the Lifestyle Centre in Cape Town’s Kloof Street is this beautifully bright café, serving fresh and vibrant food for the health conscious. The food is wholesome and delicious, like their red pepper hummus and halloumi salad. Eat on the balcony and enjoy the buzz from the street below.

La Belle

Though the pastry and freshly-baked treats might tempt you, La Belle has many great guilt-free options which will leave you feeling satisfied and happy. Their organic salads are sourced from their own garden, as are the ingredients used to make their raw, freshly pressed juices. The service is attentive and you are sure to leave this place feeling revived and alive.

Orchard on Long

Smoothies are a great meal substitute, especially when trying to change to healthier eating habits. Orchard on Long specializes in juices and smoothies prepared on site. The space is bright and inviting and can serve as a great escape from everyday life. Their Exuberance juice makes for a great midday pick-me-up and if needs be they offer amazing juice cleanses.
