3 SA restaurants in world top 100

Margot Janse of Le Quartier Francais in Franschhoek has been named the best in Africa and the Middle East and rated 36th in the world on the San Pellegrino Top 50 listing.

Announced last night, the winner remained Noma for the 2nd year running, a Danish restaurant run by chef Rene Redzepi.

Another huge achievement for South Africa is that Rust en Vrede was rated 61st and La Colombe 82nd in the San Pellegrino Top 100.

For the first time at the awards they announced Best Female Chef, which was won by Anne-Sophie Pic of Maison Pic in the south east of France.

We feel that our lovely Margot Janse should have taken the top spot as she has consistently been the only female in the top 50 for some years now. Winner Anne-Sophie did not even crack the top 50 this year, but hey, we’re biased.

Well done South Africa!
